What is the 50 hours of Prayer?
The 50 hours of Prayer Vigil consists of 24 prayer teams, each team praying 3 Akathists.
The Akathist’s are primarily prayed in English, but also in Russian, Greek, Chinese and
other languages. The Vigils are always bathed in prayer before and during the Vigil. If
you want to join us in person or by zoom, check our website at www.orthodox-
mission.org for dates and times for the next 50 hours of prayer.
What are Team Captain Responsibilities?
- Pray that God will guide you in assembling your team.
- Pray for your team members.
- Call team members 1 week before your time slot to remind them and ask if they
have any questions.
- If you choose, bring your personal icons from home to venerate during your prayer
time.
- If possible, fast 6 hours before your time slot.
- Day of the event - arrive at least 15 minutes early.
- When you arrive, join the previous team at the podium as they complete their last
round of the Jesus prayer. In order to provide a smooth transition, as the first
team finishes, quietly allow them to leave the podium and you begin your 5
minutes of the Prayer.
- After finishing the Jesus Prayer begin to pray the Akathists – 1 person can pray
Kontakion One and Ikos One. Second person Kontakion 2 and Ikos 2. And so on.
- When all Akathist’s are prayed, end your time with another round of 33 knots.
Allow the next team to transition into their prayer time.
- Leave the area quickly so the 50 Hours of Prayer can continue.
- Email one of the co-chairs (Elizabeth Brollini or Carolyn (Georgia) Skurich) if you are going to be late or if you cannot attend.
- No eating or drinking in the Sanctuary.
- Thank you for your dedication in making the 50 Hours of Prayer successful.
Glory to God in all things!
Please know you and your team are being prayed for by the 50 Hours of Prayer Committee.
